Pumpkin Seed Oil has a high level of fatty acids that assist in maintaining smooth skin tone and speeds up the repair of irritated, dry and flaky skin.  And it just makes beard hair look grand.

DIY Chocolate Mint Lip Balm

I Chose Avocado Oil For This DIY Chocolate Mint Lip Balm Recipe Because…..

I’ve seen SO many recipes on Pinterest for chocolate pudding recipes using avocados for those on Paleo diets, I thought I’d tie that trend in here, with this fabulous DIY Chocolate Mint Lip Balm recipe.

For those of you looking to sell your wares, tying a recipe to a trend will increase your sales….promise! So, you could present this as being vegan and/or having a Paleo twist!

1 Tablespoon + 2 teaspoons Carnauba Wax

1  Tablespoon + 1 teaspoon Coconut Oil  Optional: Not a fan of Coconut Oil? Sub it out with Mango Butter

6  Tablespoons Avocado Oil

3 Tablespoons  High Quality Cocoa Powder

10-15 drops Young Living Peppermint Essential Oil

2 ounce HOT PINK TINS. People! Are these tins not the BOMB? Plus, when I have a terrific lip balm recipe, I prefer to pour it into larger tins. That way they don’t get lost as easily. *blush*

Do you need to order some essential oils?  I’d love to help.  Here’s how you can order Young Living Essential Oils AND get a $25.00 rebate off of your Premium Starter Kit!   I would MUCH rather lower the price of your Premium Starter Kit, than think you were purchasing your oils from a big box store or something.  Yuck.

The Method

1. Sift your cocoa powder. Yes, I know it’s a pain in the butt. Do it anyway. Over low heat, GENTLY WARM the Avocado Oil. Add cocoa powder to warm avocado oil and stir. Then stir some more. And since your already there, keep stirring until the cocoa powder has incorporated into the avocado oil, rewarming if necessary. Then set it aside.

DIY Chocolate Mint Lip Balm

Taking the time to sift your cocoa powder and then gently warm the avocado oil does two things.  First, it insures you won’t get a gritty feel from the cocoa powder, as the powdered has been absorbed by the oil.  Second, it helps give the finished product a shiny top.

2. Gently melt your coconut oil and wax in a double boiler. I swear by this *this post contains affiliate links melting pot. It’s the perfect size and has a spout made to pour from.  I LOVE it so much, I bought two.  And I used both of them making this DIY Chocolate Mint Lip Balm. .  One for the powder and avocado oil and one to melt the coconut oil and wax.

DIY Chocolate Mint Lip Balm

3. Add your avocado oil and cocoa butter mixture to the melted butters a little bit at a time, stirring well.

4. Remove mixture from heat, stirring as it cools down some and add your peppermint essential oil.

5. Pour the chocolate and peppermint goodness into your tins and allow to cool. Remember, if you want less of a divet (dimple?) in the middle of your balm, you can do one of two things:

Pour at a lower temperature.

Over pour your container until a round bubble takes shape……then make sure you don’t touch the container until it solidifies.

Planning A Make And Take?  Try This Suggestion!

I’m always perplexed when I find out that someone had trouble with a recipe when the very first time they tried to make it was at a Make And Take.

ALWAYS do a test batch at home FIRST! Even if the recipe looks so simple that you think you could do it in your sleep…..do a TEST BATCH.

A test batch allows you to become comfortable with a recipe. It allows you to understand how the ingredients melt, how the essential oils interact, ect.

Most importantly, test batching allows your to anticipate anything unexpected and trouble shoot it ahead of time.

Finally, take pictures of each step as you test batch. Add those pictures to your instructions for your Make And Take. This tells people that you are a pro at what you do, and anytime they have a question about lip balms OR essential oils, YOU are the person they should go to.

And, yes. As a matter of fact I do need to take my own advice and incorporate it into my essential oil recipe posts.  <g>

DIY Body Spray With Stress Away Essential Oil Blend

I love a good DIY Body Spray with essential oils.  But, it’s got to have a fragrance that lasts.  And It can’t be drying.   Finally, if you don’t want to have to continuously shake the bottle before I use it, I have a couple of solutions.   All of this in an DIY Body Spray , you may ask?   Absolutely.

DIY Body Spray Recipe

Witch Hazel. Water. Vodka. Oh, MY!

I prefer to keep it easy and use only vodka in my body sprays. I like how quickly vodka evaporates, and I like how vodka helps preserve my essentials longer than water or witch hazel.  If you are worried about the expense of using all EVERCLEAR, substitute 1/3 distilled water for 1/3 of the EVERCLEAR.

I’m giving these to my son’s Teacher’s and Therapists for an at the end of the school year gift.  I plan on making a card that says something like, “Wishing You A STRESS Free Summer AWAY From All Your Worries……”    Okay.  So the card is still a work in progress, but you get the idea.

Why I Add Glycerin To My DIY Body Spray

Glycerin helps to offset any potential drying effect from the EVERCLEAR used in this body spray recipe. It also helps the essential oil fragrance blend to last longer on your skin.  I use 1/3 in my body spray recipe.

EVERCLEAR Grain Alcohol

Glycerin

4 Drops Polysorbate 20  (*OPTIONAL see below)

4-5 Drops Stress Away Essential Oil Blend   Here’s where you can order Young Living Essential Oils.

3ml Disposable Essential Oil Pipettes

Spray Bottles    I used these gorgeous glass 1/3 ounce spritzer bottles. I absolutely LOVE them, and will be giving them as gifts. But they are a thinner GLASS that I would not carry in my purse.  You may want to go with an aluminum spray bottle, or a thicker glass spritzer bottle. Pay attention to how much your spray bottle holds, and adjust the recipe accordingly.

DIY Body Spray

The Method

The spray bottles that I used are 1/3 of an ounce.  I had 6 bottles, so that came to 2 Ounces of DIY Body Spray.   My ratio for body spray base is 2/3 EVERCLEAR and 1/3 Glycerin.  I usually just eyeball it, using the disposable pipettes to transfer the EVERCLEAR and Glycerin to the *this post contains affiliate links spray bottles.

Remember, if you would like, you can substitute 1/3 of your EVERCLEAR for distilled water.  Keep the glycerin amount the same.

Shake until everything is well blended….and you are ready to go!

DIY Body Spray

Adding Polysorbate 20 To A DIY Body Spray

For those who like the idea of not having to  shake DIY body sprays before they use them, polysorbate 20 may be an option.

HOWEVER, the use of Polysorbate 20 means that your body spray will NO LONGER be considered ALL NATURAL.  The Polysorbate 20 emulsifies the essential oils, glycerin and vodka so that shaking isn’t required.  FYI, this Polysorbate 20 is Food Grade and Kosher.

Your opinion may differ and that’s terrific, feel free to leave it out and go all natural.    The glycerin may act as a bit of an emulsifier too.

My goal here is to share ideas, and then allow everyone to choose what best fits themselves and their customer base.   If you have ideas on how to help emulsify the essential oils with the EVERCLEAR, please share in the comment section!

If it makes any difference, I opt for a Polysobate 20 free body spray as I’m working to remove the toxic load from my home.

The usual ratio for DIY Body Sprays is 1 drop of Polysorbate 20 to 1 drop essential oil.  However, I’ve gotten away with about half of that for customers that preferred me to add it.

If you want to mix your Polysorbate 20 and Essential Oils together first and then stir until the solution is no longer cloudy, that is the usual protocol.  Luckily, the Stress Away essential oil doesn’t cause any cloudiness, so you could just add  them straight to the spray bottle.

PRO TIP: Right now I am running a special on your choice of a Young Living Premium Starter Kit.  I’ll refund you $25.00 in the form of an Amazon Gift Card or PayPal when your order your kit from me!
