November 25, 2012 By Prepared Mom

Cotton Ball Fire Starters

Good morning everyone! Today's Sunday Skill will take you more time to gather the 3 ingredients than it will to make your fire starter. Cotton ball fire starters burn for quite a bit of … [Read more...] about Sunday Skill: Cotton Ball Fire Starters

How to Dehydrate Apples

apple on peeler/slicer/corer

Dehydrating food is a skill that all preppers should master and dehydrated apples are probably the easiest food to learn with.  But I would be seriously remiss in letting anyone think that I store dehydrated apples as long term food storage in this house. Truth is, the second my kids see this bag on the counter they will be gone. The work involved used to make the fact that … [Read more...] about How to Dehydrate Apples

Can Your Children Light A Match? Todays Sunday Skill

November 18, 2012 By Prepared Mom

lit match

Last week I wanted to light a sugar cookie candle in the living room. I reached for the disposable candle lighter and it was out of butane. No biggie, I sent the 16 year old downstairs for one of the many boxes of matches stored and asked him to do it for me while I was doing something else. Then I heard something that sent me reeling into a mom failure mode: "Mom, how do you … [Read more...] about Can Your Children Light A Match? Todays Sunday Skill

How To Make a Family Information Form for Emergencies

This is part two of a Family Emergency Plan series written by our contributing writer, Prepper Lush. Make sure to read Family Emergency Plan #1: Talking to Your Family. Why Worry About Preparing?

Preparedness for a disaster makes a lot of sense. With recent and predicted events like Hurricane Sandy, The Colorado Wildfires, Fiscal Cliffs, and rising food and gas costs just in 2012 there is no denying that things are changing in our world. Whether or not you believe "The End of the World As We Know It" is near there are plenty of everyday things to worry about: loss of a job, health emergency, local weather events to name a few.

I find that I worry less about the big "what if's" out there the more emergency planning my family does to deal with the unexpected. I will share the survival tips and tricks I have learned while on this preparedness journey and hope that you join in with lots of comments. We all have a lot to learn from one another.

Now, lets get started prepping! Pick a post and start reading. At the end of every post the blog randomly selects three more survival posts for you to check out. Set aside 10 minutes a day to build your preppers knowledge base. We can never be done learning or prepping, right?
